Dear Parents and Carers

Our Badgeholders and Young Leaders have been busy over the last couple of weeks. Badgeholders have delivered House Assemblies to both Key Stages and Young Leaders have set daily games up on both playgrounds for children to engage with at lunchtimes.

Results from our pupil elections were announced.  Well done to all pupils who have been voted to serve as A*STARS Sheriffs, Digital Champions, Eco Warriors, Junior Safety Officers, Wellbeing Champions and School Council for this academic year. A massive thank you to all pupils who nominated themselves and families for your support.

We are holding our Parents/Carers Evenings on Monday, 20th October and Wednesday, 22nd October for children from Nursery to Year 6. All appointments will be face to face appointments in either the KS1 Hall or KS2 Hall depending on your child's year group. More information will follow on this and notifications will come out when appointments are available on Arbor.

Have a lovely, Autumnal weekend!

Mrs Arnold

Homework

Thank you to all parents/carers who have corresponded with school regarding views on homework.

We will send a formal Microsoft form this week for parents to share views if you haven't already.

No decision has been made yet - we are genuinely seeking parental views before we move forward with any permanent changes.

We do share Curriculum information for Parents each half term. This gives parents an overview of what children are learning each half term as well as ideas of ways children can be supported at home.

Egyptians

Children in Year 4 have enjoyed a History Day based on the Egyptians. During the workshop they learned about mumification, the life of a pharaoh, how to communicate using hieroglyphs, how to play Egyptian games such as Sennet and made clay amulets! They also had the opportunity to look at Egyptian artefacts and complete a quiz.

Mrs Forward

Back to School Discos

Our discos last night were a real hit with the children! Children from Year 3/4 and then 5/6 enjoyed seeing their friends, singing, dancing and having the photos taken!

Behaviour was excellent throughout - well done children and thank you to all staff involved!

European Languages Day

Today, children across our school have taken part in European Languages Day. They completed activities, explored some of the cultures from different countries and learned some key phrases. Thank you to Mrs Shariff for organising the day! The following languages were the focus for these year groups:

ree

Nursery - British Sign Language

Reception - German

Year 1 - Spanish

Year 2 - Portuguese

Year 3 - French

Year 4 - Polish

Year 5 - Danish

Year 6 - Italian

Children will have the opportunity to enter a competition held by the Global School Alliance and the Council of Europe. This year’s theme for 2025 is 'Languages open hearts and minds' and a separate letter has already been shared with parents.

These should be returned to school by Friday 10th October.

Parking around school

Due to the increasing amount of cars parking in the roads around the school, we have requested support from the Police and Council Enforcement Officers in relation to parking issues and hopefully you will have seen them today on our surrounding roads.

Safety during PE/Swimming activities

We have had a surge in the amount of children who are expecting to wear earrings for PE or want to use tape/plasters to cover earrings. Whilst we want to be as flexible as possible, we have sought advice on this matter from our external Health and Safety provider and we have had the following advice:

The Association for PE (AfPE) advises that all jewelry, including earrings, should be removed before participating in PE or swimming, as it presents an unnecessary risk of injury to the wearer and others. Schools have a duty of care to ensure safety, and therefore cannot rely on taping or plastic retainers for safety during activity.

As a result we have reviewed and updated our PE risk assessment and we are unable to permit anyone wearing earrings to take an active part in PE or swimming. This includes after school clubs/Sports Days/Sports Competitions.

Therefore, we request that earrings are removed at home prior to the school day if children are unable to remove themselves or that children bring a small box/tin in with them on PE days and remove the earrings themselves. Please note that staff are not permitted to remove earrings from pupils.

Thank you for your support in this matter.

MacMillan Coffee Morning

ree

Thank you to parents, carers and staff who supported our MacMillan Coffee Morning last week. There were some lovely cake donations and we were able to raise money for this charity which is close to many of our hearts.

Cross Country at Aldridge Airfield

Last Wednesday, children from Years 3,4,5 and 6 went to Aldridge Airfield to compete in a cross country event. All the children gave 100 per cent and represented the school really well.

In the Year 3 race Alfie came 2nd, in Year 4 Jack came 5th, Hayden came 1st in the Year 5 race and Dylan 2nd in Year 6 race. Well done to all the competitors!

IMPORTANT - Nut aware school

Please note that we are a 'Nut aware' school.  Our school aims to protect children and staff who have allergies to nuts and a number of these have an Epipen held in school in the case of a severe reaction.  We do not allow nuts or nut products in lunch boxes and we ask for your support with this matter.

As a school, we do not provide food items that contain nuts however some items may state 'may contain nut traces'.  All food items we provide are checked for allergens upon delivery.

The following items should not be brought into school:

  • Whole nuts

  • Peanut butter or Nutella/chocolate and hazelnut spread sandwiches

  • Fruit or cereal bars that contain nuts

  • Biscuits or cakes that contain nuts

  • Or any other items that contains nuts

Children allergic to nuts may also have a reaction from sesame seeds so please do not send in items containing sesame seeds.

We really do appreciate your support with this item.
