Spring Term 2026

Dear Parents and Carers

The snow certainly made it's presence known last week - thank you to all our families, staff and children for your cooperation last week with the snow closure. I have to say a massive thank you to our site staff - Mr Jackson and Mrs Jackson - for the efforts they went to in order to make sure the site was open and safe for everyone on Monday.
Mrs Begum has said goodbye to us temporarily today as she starts her maternity leave. We wish her and her family all the very best and we hope to see the little one very soon (but not too soon she said!)
Over this week and last week children have been taking part in their termly assessments. For Year 6 pupils, we do give them practice of completing tests in the way it will be administered for their SATs later on in the year. This has run very smoothly and gives us a really good idea of any adjustments we need to make in order to support individuals. Thank you to all parents who came to the Year 6 SATs and Residential workshop this week.
Parent/Carer Consultation Evenings are coming up in a few weeks time. These are probably the most important ones of the year as teachers know the children well and can give you a good idea about how they are getting on - academically, socially and emotionally. We will give out Mid Year Feedback reports at the meetings which share Teacher assessments, let the children know what are proud of as well as what we would like them to work on. A letter will be coming out from the School Office to let you know when appointments will be released on Arbor.

We hope you enjoy the weekend - however you choose to spend it and we will see you next week!
Mrs Arnold

Curriculum Information for parents - overviews on the website
Each half term we publish a curriculum overview to outline what topics and key learning children will be covering this half term and also how parents can help at home if they would like to. The information covers every subject your child is taught and contains suggested activities and links to follow. We do this routinely but some of our newer parents were not aware this was on the website - so we are taking this opportunity to remind everyone!
Anglo Saxon History Workshop
Children in Year 5 enjoyed an immersive experience where they learnt all about Anglo Saxon life and the Battle of Hastings. Children explored Saxon artefacts, took part in a Witan council meeting and played traditional Anglo Saxon and Viking games. Children also used spears and shields to reenact the Battle of Hastings!

TT Rockstars and Numbers Day
We are looking forward to our TT Rockstars and Numbers Day on Friday, 2nd February when the whole school will be taking part in this maths-inspired fundraising event - dressed up as either a number or a rockstar!
Look out for a separate letter about this and we look forward to seeing the school full of numbers and rockstars on TTRockstars and Numbers Day!
Coffee and Cake with Miquill!
To help with any queries around the new School Dinner menus, our new catering company, Miquill would like to hold a parent and carer ‘coffee and cake’ session where any parents and carers who have questions or general enquiries can meet with them and have a chat to answer any queries or alleviate any concerns - whilst enjoying a drink and a homemade Miquill cake.
The session will take place on Tuesday, 20th January 2025 from 8.45am and a separate letter has come out about this including a link if you would like to attend https://forms.office.com/e/KtDGzY3EP5
We have found that children who are willing to try the new menu items are enjoying the food. We would like to request that parents and carers discuss the menus with the children and encourage them to try food options they may not have tried before. Miquill are happy to allow children to taste the new items alongside their dinner choice, this has had a positive impact in KS2.
Miquill will also be offering parents and carers a tasting session at the upcoming Consultation Evenings next month and further information will follow.
NHS Pharmacy First Service
Did you know that the NHS Pharmacy First Service enables children and adults to get convenient access to healthcare advice and treatment, where appropriate, for seven common conditions without the potential delay of having to wait for a GP appointment? Accessing the service may mean that you can help children feel better and get back to school as quickly as possible, as well as supporting parents/carers to also get better if they are unwell with one of the conditions covered under the service.
There is no need to make an appointment; parents or carers can pop into their local pharmacy with their child and ask for help under the service.
Support for the following conditions can be accessed under the service, free of charge (unless NHS prescription charges apply):
