Year 6 attended the Remembrance wreath-laying ceremony at Barr Beacon War Memorial today, joining others to honour the courage and sacrifice of the men and women who have served our country and those who have lost their lives in conflict. They investigated graffiti lettering and graphic design before creating their own colourful compositions using bold lettering, shapes and patterns. Year 4 enjoyed a visit from the Fire Service, learning important fire safety advice and what to do in an emergency. The children learnt about the SPARKS fire safety message, including how to Stop, Drop and Roll if their clothes catch fire. A fantastic opportunity to learn how to stay safe!

Our Back to School Discos were a real hit with the children! Everyone had a fantastic time catching up with friends, singing, dancing and having their photos taken. We had a wonderful time celebrating Hello Yellow Day in support of World Mental Health Day. The children and staff brightened up the school by wearing yellow alongside their uniforms and helping to raise money for YoungMinds, a charity supporting young people's mental health. Over the last couple of days, our children have spent time in assemblies thinking about children and families who may be less fortunate than themselves. Mrs Francis introduced our “Donate a Toy” appeal and explained how we can help bring a little extra joy to children who are facing difficult and traumatic circumstances. Children have been invited, if they are able to, to bring in a new toy, book or wrapping paper to school. All donations will be collected and taken to Beacon

The whole school had a very exciting visit from the Animal Man company! The children were introduced to a wide variety of fascinating creatures, including an owl, a honey bear, snakes and even a tarantula! The visit sparked lots of curiosity and excitement as the children learned interesting facts about each animal.

We are delighted to have once again been awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag, with Merit! The assessors were impressed with the school’s engagement in a range of environmental issues across the community. They were pleased to hear about the success of our textile collections, Christmas jumper stall and book swaps. These events could not go ahead without your support, so thank you! Year 6 had a wonderful day on their Summer trip to Woodlands. They worked hard on all the outdoor activities and helped each other with teamwork. It was lovely to hear that they represented the school so well and 'got stuck in'!! Thank you to all the staff who also had a lovely time!!!

As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, the children took part in a range of activities designed to promote positive mental health and well-being, including the Mile Walk and creative classroom tasks. We also supported ‘Wear It Green Day’, where staff and children added a splash of green to their uniforms to help raise awareness of mental health and encourage open, positive conversations about well-being.

Our Eco Warriors have been making a real difference in our local community! Equipped with litter pickers and plenty of enthusiasm, the group headed out this week to take part in a litter-picking initiative. The children showed fantastic teamwork and determination as they worked together to clean up the streets! We are proud of their efforts and the positive example they are setting. Fire officers visited our Year 4 class to deliver the SPARKS programme. During the session, the children learned about the common causes of fires and discussed practical ways to prevent them in everyday situations.
