Summer Term 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,
The children have enjoyed lots of activities in school over the last half term even though it was only a short one! There have been visitors into school and trips out of school all of which provide opportunities to enhance our curriculum.
Next half term is also packed with events and opportunities for the children - not least all the preparations for our Year 6 pupils as they draw to the end of their Primary School Years. At the bottom of the newsletter is a list of key dates for your information. Please remember that we are unable to authorise any leave of absence for holidays, therefore please check term dates on our website before booking. Where holidays are taken in term time, this can result in a fine of £80 per child per parent.
We hope you all have a lovely Bank Holiday and Whitsun break and we look forward to seeing all our families again in June.
Mrs Arnold and all the staff
Year 4 - Jungle Book
What a wonderful show! Our Year 4 children put on an outstanding performance of the Jungle Book this week. There were solos, group singing, ensembles, dance routines and many lines to learn and they
all did a brilliant job, each and every one. Thank you to families for their support, staff for their commitment and continued hard work and the children for trying their very, very best.
Hair cuts and shaved patterns
Expectations hairstyles (taking into account the requirement described above to avoid discrimination in line with the Equality Act 2010)
- No large hair accessories/ornaments such as JoJo bows
- Long hair (shoulder length or longer) must be tied back
- Tramlines or shaved eyebrows are not permitted
- Hair styles which are extreme/detract from learning or impact health and safety are not allowed
We do not, and never have, allow tramlines or shaved patterns in hair or eyebrows. This includes 'cat scratches', lightening bolts and other shavings.
Pyjamarama
We joined thousands of children all around the country – in schools, nurseries, community groups and at home – reading and enjoying stories all in the comfort of our pyjamas. And all to raise vital funds to help every child enjoy story time. This years theme was about the value of bedtime reading and we had battery powered candles in darkened halls to recreate a night time feel - the children loved it and loved sharing stories with buddies from other year groups
‘There's nothing quite like a book at bedtime. It's the perfect end to the day, a chance to snuggle up and share the magic of stories together.’
Year 2 History Workshop - Medieval Knights
Year 2 enjoyed their History Workshop called 'Medieval Knights'. We learned about the duties of a knight and looked at the different artefacts. Children then played medieval games, designed their own coat of arms and learned about the Crusades.

Tag Rugby
This week a young Tag Rugby team went to Veseyans Rugby Club to compete in a Tag Rugby Tournament. They lost 1, drew 1 and won 1. The loss and draw were very close and very tense to watch! The team played really well together, everyone was getting involved in the game and they all enjoyed the tournament. The referees commended them for some of their offloads and attempts at keeping the ball alive. They were a pleasure to take and represented the school well.

Party bags and party invites
Within school we are seeing an increase in requests for our teachers to distribute party invitations, party bags, birthday cake and sweets. Unfortunately our teaching staff do not have time to facilitate this for 30 children in a class and there is also Health and Safety guidance to consider. There are also times when items can be mislaid, not taken home etc and this is not the teachers responsibility. Therefore, we are now taking the opportunity to clarify what is possible through school.
Please do not send in party invites at all - we will not be able to distribute them and teachers will politely decline any request.
Please do not send in party bags/small toys as we will not be able to distribute these to others and we would not want to upset children.
We will happily allow children to distribute - to the whole class - sealed packets of sweets or individually wrapped snacks with printed allergen and ingredient information provided by the manufacturer. Please remember that we are a nut-aware school and therefore no items with nuts in should be brought into school. Any food items distributed in school will be sent home with children for parents to decide if they can eat it.
Year 6 Careers Talks
Y6 students had an exciting careers talk with professionals from diverse fields today. This included a very brave firefighter, a talented author and business owner who shared insights into her street dance company and her nursery. We also had a humanitarian head of IT sourcing at Lloyds Bank, and a skilled cost reductions engineer who works for Polestars Cars. The importance of determination, resilience and staying focused were highlighted and equally importantly, the significance of contributing to society in a positive way as responsible citizens. The children learned about the various skills required for each job and asked thoughtful questions, gaining valuable insights into different career paths. The experience broadened their horizons and sparked curiosity and potential future careers.

Dinner Money
Please could all parents and carers check their Arbor account and clear any money owing. Dinners should be paid in advance and where debt accumulates we will not be able to continue offering your child a hot dinner at school. If you do have dinner money owing, please contact our School Office to arrange payment.
It may be worth considering whether your child is entitled to free school meals.
Eligibility
Your child may be able to get free school meals if you are in receipt of certain benefits. Please follow this link to Walsall Council's website where you can check eligibility. Free school meals | Walsall Council
You can apply if your child attends school within Walsall borough, whether you live inside or outside the borough. Find out more about how to apply for free school meals.
Junior Safety Officers - JSOs
Our JSOs continue to be active around the school - checking that we are as safe as possible - working with Mr Jackson our Site Manager and Miss Matthews our JSO co-ordinator. They now have their new hi-vis so that we can spot them when they are out and about!

Community Events and Family Support

Beacon Church is planning on opening a Youth and Community Coffee Shop in the area at the front of the church. It will be open to all but will have a particular focus on giving local young people somewhere safe to meet up and spend time as there is not really anything like that around here. The church also plans to employ a youth worker to build relationships with the young people who use the coffee shop and be able to offer support and guidance when it is needed and wanted. They are trying to raise £10,000 from the local community towards this.
Can you donate £10 to help make this happen? To make a donation or find out more go to
