Autumn Term 2024
Dear Parents and Carers
What a week! It has been so busy in school with events and competitions, plus all the usual ailments at this time of year and then on top of that...the snow! I know the children were hoping for 2 feet of snow and a school closure, but we were able to keep the school open I'm afraid, even though there was quite a heavy sprinkling of snow. We will always endeavour to keep the school open as we know it is vital for parents particularly those who work or who have commitments in the day.
I must say a big thank you to our Site Manager - Mr Jackson and our Caretaker Mrs Jackson - they have been up well before 5:00am for the last 3 mornings, shovelling snow and gritting pathways in order for the site to be safe for children, parents and staff.
We hope you and your families have a lovely weekend
Mrs Arnold
Adverse weather procedures
In the event of adverse weather all efforts will be made to keep school open in order to minimise disruption to our children’s education. However, in the event of closure parents will be notified as soon as practically possible.
A decision to close will usually be made by 7:00 am on the day and this will be then communicated to parents through:
• School Text Service- we will use the priority number on our school management system so please ensure this information is up to date
• School Web Site-we will place a notification on the front page of the School Web Site and keep parents updated throughout
• Class Dojo -we will place a notification on the school story of Class Dojo
• Walsall Children’s Services will be notified who will update their information - www.walsall.gov.uk
In the event that adverse weather sets in during the day, then we will make every attempt to keep school open for the full day, however all after school clubs will be cancelled. If we advise parents to collect early during the day then this will be communicated to parents by text.
Kids Cup at Bescot Stadium
Last Monday, the boys Year 5/6 football team played in a tournament at Bescot Stadium. We were in a group with Fibbersley, St. Annes and Kings Hill and we played each school twice. We won 4 , drew 1 and lost 1. This made us top of our group when we then had to play Holy Trinity in the final - which we won 1-0.
The boys will now go to the Walsall finals tournament in January to determine who will represent Walsall FC in the kids cup. Well done all!!
Year 5 Trip to the Space Centre
Year 5 had a brilliant day at the Space Centre on Thursday 7th November.
The children explored the history of time travel and the space race between the USA and Soviet Union. They saw a piece of rock taken from the moon during the Apollo 17 mission and learnt about how astronauts prepare for these missions. They also watched an immersive 3D video in the planetarium about astronaut life and learnt about the planets in the solar system.
A great day was had by all and the staff came away very proud of the children and their enthusiasm for learning as well as their good manners and behaviour.
Children will now use this visit as an inspiration towards their Space Projects!
Anti Bullying Week
Anti-Bullying Week took place last week with this year’s theme being ‘Choose Respect’.
Assemblies were delivered across school throughout the week, children had the opportunity to enter our Anti-Bullying poster competition as well as completing lessons through the PSHE curriculum.
On Tuesday 12th November, we celebrated ‘Odd Socks Day.’
This celebrates individuality/inclusivity and encourages children to express themselves. Many children (and staff) participated in this by wearing an odd pair of socks to school for the day!
Nursery Rhyme Week
Our Nursery and Reception children celebrated Nursery Rhyme Day last week by dressing up as a character from a Nursery Rhyme. All of our children (and teachers of course) looked fantastic. As part of our celebrations we sang '5 current Buns' via Teams, to the other schools in our Trust. They shared their Nursery Rhymes with us too. We spent the day completing activities based around popular Nursery Rhymes.
Mrs Knight
Choir performing at The Halls - Wolverhampton
On Monday 11th November, our choir - together with a Dance Squad from Elston Hall Primary - performed at The Halls in Wolverhampton.
This was an event where a number of different schools performed to celebrate the Diversity across the city.
Our choir performed brilliantly and their behaviour was exemplary! I am sure any parents and carers who joined us there would agree!
Children in Need
Last Friday we celebrated Children in Need along with the rest of the country!
Children learned about other children who were less fortunate than themselves and what the donated money goes towards.
We raised £487.90 on the day and all funds will go directly to Children in Need.
Thank you to everyone who donated!
Fire Brigade visit to Year 4
Year 4 enjoyed a Fire Safety Sparks visit today. The children have learned about fire, road, car and water safety. The children planned routes out of buildings including flats, houses and bungalows, they looked at the importance of smoke detectors and worked in groups identify dangers.
Pencil Cases
Children do not need to bring pencil cases to school. It seems a lot are bringing their own items in and then getting upset when things go missing. They are also telling other children they cannot use their belongings which has caused some unnecessary friction. There are plenty or resources in school for children to use for writing/drawing.
Flu vaccinations.
Unfortunately Vaccination UK were unable to administer all of the flu vaccinations in school yesterday. An additional session has now been arranged and the vaccination will be provided in school on Wednesday 11th December to anyone with consent who has not yet received it, there is no need to re-complete the consent form. If you would like your child to receive the vaccination and have not yet completed the consent form, please follow link https://midlands.schoolvaccination.uk/flu/2024/Walsall
Gardening Club
Gardening club enjoyed creating signs for their planters and pots on Tuesday.
These will be varnished to make them weatherproof - look out for these in the KS1 planters soon!
Asda Rewards Cashpot for Schools
If you haven't done so already, please could we ask any parent who shops at Asda and uses the Asda Rewards App to select our school. There are no cost implications to yourself and instead Asda will donate a percentage of your shopping bill to school.
You have already raised £1,429.68 for the children at our school and there only 8 days left - thank you so much!
