Summer Term 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,
The children have enjoyed lots of activities in school over the last half term. There have been visitors to the school and trips out of school all of which provide opportunities to enhance our curriculum.
Next half term is also packed with events and opportunities for the children - not least all the preparations for our Year 6 pupils as they draw to the end of their Primary School Years. Just below is a list of key dates for your information. Please remember that we are unable to authorise any leave of absence for holidays, therefore please check term dates on our website before booking. Where holidays are taken in term time, this can result in a fine of £80 per child per parent.
We hope you all have a lovely Bank Holiday and Whitsun break and we look forward to seeing all our families again in June.
Mrs Arnold and all the staff

Year 4 Production - The Greatest Show
What a wonderful show! Our Year 4 children put on an outstanding performance of the Greatest Show this week. There were solos, group singing, ensembles, dance routines and many lines to learn and they
all did a brilliant job, each and every one. Thank you to families for their support, staff for their commitment and continued hard work and the children for trying their very, very best.
Wear it Green Day
Thank you to all children and staff for turning our school green last week for Wear it Green Day in recognition of Children's Mental Health week.
Phones in school
Just a reminder to share with families - we do not permit children to bring mobile phones into school and nor do we permit others to use mobiles whilst on our site. This is for the protection of your children and forms part of our safeguarding policy.
Hair cuts and shaved patterns
Expectations for hairstyles (taking into account the Equality Act 2010) are as follows:
- No large hair accessories/ornaments such as JoJo bows
- Long hair (shoulder length or longer) must be tied back
- Tramlines or shaved eyebrows are not permitted
- Hair styles which are extreme/detract from learning or impact health and safety are not allowed
We do not, and never have, allowed tramlines or shaved patterns in hair or eyebrows. This includes 'cat scratches', lightening bolts and other shavings.
National Year of Reading
A huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who took part in the sponsored read to celebrate the ‘National Year of Reading’. We are extremely grateful to all the children who read each day and raised a massive £469 for new books to be used in school. All the money you raised will go towards brand new books to enhance our library with books for interest and topics covered in the curriculum, as well as books for classroom book corners and up to date books for our free readers. In addition to this sponsorship money, Usborne will also donate up to 30% of this total in extra free books to the school.
Children will receive a certificate and as an added extra, the child who has read for the most amount of minutes across the week will win a book bundle.
Advice for families about screen time
New advice has come for parents on screen time for young children as research shows 98% of two-year-olds are watching screens daily. Avoiding screen time altogether isn’t realistic—but it is manageable.
The guidance has come from the government which says that 90% of children’s development happens before the age of five. Large amounts of unmanaged screen time can affect:
· Sleep
· Physical play
· Creative activities
· Time spent talking with parents and carers
What does the guidance recommend?
· Under 2s: Avoiding screen time other than for shared activities that encourage bonding, interaction and conversation.
· 2 to 5-year-olds: Trying to keep it to no more than one hour a day. Avoid at mealtimes and in the hour before bed.
· Content: Choosing slow-paced, age-appropriate content. Fast-paced, social media-style videos and AI toys or tools should be avoided for young children.
· Co-Viewing: Watching or using screens together talking, asking questions and engaging with the content. This is better for a child’s development than solo screen use.
