Miss Carroll and Miss Holmes

At multi-skills, the children engaged in a variety of activities with the aim to help them develop a wide range of physical, cognitive, and social skills. The overall goal of multi-skills is to provide opportunities for children to experience different types of activities, focusing on overall development rather a single sport.

In week one of multi-skills, we introduced the children to balancing and got them to practice this skill in our warmup by getting the children to stand on one leg for 15 seconds then doing the same on the other leg. After the children had practiced there balancing, we got the balancing benches out so the children could have a go at applying their balancing skills to balance across the benches. We continued with various balancing activities throughout the week as balance was the key skill we were focusing on. The children engaged in activities such as yoga, where they had to use their balance skills to complete the yoga poses. All children improved their balance skills towards the end of multi-skills which also contributed to them enhancing their fine motor skills, coordination etc.

Throughout the weeks the children played a range of games that required them to use and improve on various other skills too. We played games like teddy bears and hoop defenders which required children to run, skip, hop, jump and work as a team.  We also used the light up board game in the key stage 1 hall that required children to hit the circle that lit up, thus enhancing their hand-eye coordination skills. The children also enjoyed participating in lots of obstacle courses, relay races and lots of different throwing and catching games.
